Artist member since 2022
Scarborough, Ontario
Reisha Felix is an award-winning Toronto based fine arts and multi-media artist who was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Her art celebrates the treasures of her Afro-Caribbean culture and her lived experiences on canvas - she is particularly interested in highlighting the treasure of Black hair within Black cultures. She is self-taught and uses acrylic paints as well as hot glue to simulate the textured curls, coils, kinks and knots in her sometimes touchable art.
Reisha's art was wrapped on a Durham Region Transit Bus as part of a collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Durham for their 2025 Black History Month campaign and was featured on CTV news to speak about the collaboration and her art practice. She has exhibited her work in various shows at galleries in Ontario including A Black Art Fair at Nia Centre for the Arts, โImpactโ at Neilson Park Creative Centre, BLK Frames Vol 3 at Withrow Gallery, 2 shows at The Serpa Gallery, โCrownโ at The Scugog Artspace Gallery and at Art a la Carte at the Legislative Building in Toronto. Her art has international reach, many of her works also being held in private collections throughout Canada, England, the United States, Africa and the Caribbean. She has also painted live at several community and corporate events and has facilitated art workshops with schools and non-profit community art organizations like ArtStarts Toronto and the NIA Centre for the Arts.

Q+A
When did you start making art, and why?
Looking back, I guess I've always made art, hand made birthday cards, welcome home signs, jewelry boxes and even button art. In 2017 however, I got invited to a paint night in Halifax and had so much fun. I went to another a few months later and then that weekend, I bought some canvases and paints at the Dollar Store and continued my 'artventure' in a new direction!
Everyone should know about
And visit! my first home - Dominica! Dominica is a small, undisturbed volcanic island in the Eastern Caribbean. Land of 365 rivers, natural hot pools, lush rain forests and a vibrant culture coloured by our Indigenous people as well as the African, English and French influences.
During my breaks, I tend to ...
Stretch and visualize what part of the painting I'm going to start on next lol.
What do you listen to when you work?
Anything I'm in the mood for at the time, including nature sounds and good ol' silence.
I'm really good at making (a) ...
Fig pie which is a local dish from Dominica. It's boiled and crushed green bananas, thoroughly seasoned with savoury herbs and salt, topped with cheese and baked to perfection ?
Why is art important to you?
I feel good while making art and knowing that I can put a message about topics I am passionate about within my work is important. While creating, my curiosity gets piqued and satisfied and my soul smiles. Sometimes, my art makes other souls smile too and that's a plus!
